🇪🇺 Europe: APS Certificate Pre-Screening Wizard
Pre-screen your APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) eligibility for German universities before paying fees or booking interview slots.
APS Eligibility Forecast
How the APS Pre-Screening Works
The Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) is a joint office of the German Embassy and the DAAD that verifies whether your academic credentials meet German university entry standards. It is mandatory for applicants from India, China, Vietnam and Mongolia applying to Bachelor, Master and Studienkolleg programmes. Doctoral applicants are typically exempt.
This wizard runs four compound checks before you book a slot: country applicability, the 70% Class XII threshold (India, from Winter Semester 2026/27), semester coverage to avoid a later Nachzertifizierung, and your physical document bundle. A single missing piece can void the entire submission.
The 70% Class XII Trap (India)
Effective 15 March 2026 (anabin update), Indian applicants for undergraduate study in Germany must score at least 70% of the maximum achievable marks in Class XII, regardless of board. Below the line, neither direct admission nor Studienkolleg pathways open — even with a valid APS receipt.
Semester Coverage Lock
APS must cover every semester you have completed. If you continue studying after certification, a Nachzertifizierung (re-certification) is required before enrolment. This wizard flags any uncovered semesters in your current bundle.
Country Fee & Timeline Reality
Fees and waiting times differ substantially: India ≈ €225 (3–4 weeks), China ≈ €310 (4–6 weeks), Vietnam ≈ €130 (6–8 weeks), Mongolia ≈ €250 (8–10 weeks). Plan your university deadlines backwards from these windows. These week ranges and the interview-likelihood labels below are informal estimates, not officially published guaranteed turnaround times or categorisations, so confirm current figures with the relevant APS office.
Interview Triggers
Chinese and Vietnamese applicants almost always face a plausibility interview. Indian applicants currently enrolled (not yet graduated) may be called for one; IIT, UGC-NET and GATE holders often qualify for the document-only fast track.
