University degree = Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral from a PGWP-eligible DLI.

Total length of the academic program you completed (not study permit length). Minimum 8 months for any PGWP eligibility.

College non-degree programs (started on/after 1 Nov 2024) must be in IRCC's eligible field list. University degrees are exempt.

Final semester is exempt; otherwise full-time is mandatory (with limited authorized leaves).

How It Works

IRCC Tiered Duration Logic

  • Under 8 months: Not eligible for any PGWP.
  • 8 months to under 2 years: PGWP equal to program length.
  • 2 years or longer: 3-year PGWP (maximum).
  • Master's degree exception: Even if 8 months to under 2 years, you receive a 3-year PGWP.
  • Field-of-study rule (1 Nov 2024+): College non-degree graduates must be in IRCC's eligible field list. University degrees are exempt.

Important Caveats

You must apply within 180 days of receiving your final marks/program completion letter and must have held a valid study permit at some point in that window. Full-time enrolment is required throughout (final term and authorised leaves excepted).

This estimator follows IRCC's published duration framework but does not assess DLI eligibility, language tests, or specific Express Entry interactions. Always confirm with the official sources below.
