ALES to GMAT/GRE Mapping Utility

1. Module-Bound Substitution (Not Aggregate)

ALES reports three scores: Sayısal (quantitative), Sözel (verbal) and Eşit Ağırlık (equally weighted). YÖK's 2016 General Assembly decision permits GRE/GMAT to substitute for ALES, but only along compatible axes:

• GRE Quantitative → ALES Sayısal only.
• GRE Verbal → ALES Sözel only.
• GMAT Total → ALES Sayısal or EA only — never Sözel (GMAT Verbal is English-medium).
• EA from GRE = 0.5 × Quant-equivalent + 0.5 × Verbal-equivalent.

A high GRE Verbal cannot rescue a weak ALES Sayısal requirement, and vice versa — the calculator enforces this rule before producing a number.

2. Anchor Points (YÖK Lookup Table)

The conversion is a piecewise-linear interpolation between anchors published by YÖK:

GRE Quant → ALES Sayısal: 139→55, 149→65, 153→70, 157→75, 161→80, 165→85, 166→90.

GRE Verbal → ALES Sözel: 139→55, 149→65, 153→70, 157→75, 161→80, 165→85, 166→90.

GMAT Total → ALES Sayısal/EA: 280→55, 450→65, 520→70, 590→75, 660→80, 730→85, 740→90.

YÖK's statutory floor is ALES 55. Individual graduate schools at Boğaziçi, ODTÜ, İTÜ and Hacettepe routinely require 70-80. ALES, GRE and GMAT scores are each valid for five years from the test date.
