How Ain Shams University Admits Students
Ain Shams University, one of Egypt's largest public universities, fills the majority of its undergraduate seats through the same national coordination system used across the country: Tansiq, run by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. If you hold a standard Egyptian Thanaweya Amma certificate, you do not send an application to Ain Shams directly. Register your faculty preferences on the national Tansiq portal , and the system assigns you a faculty based on your percentage and the choices you ranked.
Track and Percentage Requirements
Your Thanaweya Amma track determines which Ain Shams faculties you can list. Math-section Science students compete for Engineering, while Science-section students compete for Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and similar clinical programmes. Literary track students compete for Law, Arts, Commerce, Education, and other humanities faculties. The minimum percentage each Ain Shams faculty accepts shifts every year based on applicant numbers and available seats, so check the current cycle's official Tansiq results rather than a previous year's cutoff.
The International and Equivalent Certificate Track
If you hold an international or equivalent secondary certificate, such as an American Diploma, IGCSE, IB, or a foreign national certificate, you do not go through the standard Thanaweya Amma Tansiq portal. Ain Shams University runs its own electronic coordination service during periods set by the Ministry of Higher Education, specifically for holders of equivalent Egyptian secondary school diplomas and recognized foreign certificates.
This separate track exists because Thanaweya Amma percentages and international grading systems are not directly comparable. Ain Shams and the Ministry convert your international results into an equivalent score before matching you to available faculty seats. Contact the Ain Shams admissions office ahead of the application period to confirm which documents you need for certificate equivalency, since requirements differ by certificate type and country of issue.
Steps to Apply
- Confirm which track applies to you: standard Thanaweya Amma or equivalent and international certificate.
- Thanaweya Amma holders register on tansik.digital.gov.eg during the announced coordination window and rank faculty choices.
- Equivalent and international certificate holders register through Ain Shams' own electronic coordination service and submit certificate equivalency documents.
- Wait for the placement results for your track and phase.
- Once placed, complete registration directly with your assigned Ain Shams faculty, including original certificates and required medical or fitness clearance.
After Placement
An Ain Shams placement through either track is not automatic enrollment. Complete the faculty's own registration steps within its deadline, including document verification and fee payment, to secure your seat.
