TL;DR

Public university tuition in Angola stays cheap by design: daytime programs at Universidade Agostinho Neto cost around 1,900 Kz a month under the 2020 fee table, while evening (pós-laboral) programs cost about 15,000 Kz a month. Private universities charge far more and raised fees by up to 20.74% for the 2025/26 academic year; published monthly figures range widely, so confirm the current fee schedule with each institution.

Public university tuition

Angola keeps public university tuition low as a matter of policy. The state subsidizes most of the running cost of public institutions, which is why tuition looks small next to a similar degree at a private institution. In exchange, seats stay limited and competition through the entrance exam stays high, so cheap tuition comes with a tougher route in.

At Universidade Agostinho Neto , daytime (regime diurno) tuition was set at around 1,900 Kz a month under the 2020 public-institution fee table, with pós-laboral (evening) programs at around 15,000 Kz a month. These figures date from 2020, so confirm the current table with the university before enrolling.

Budget for extra administrative charges beyond tuition. Enrollment confirmation, student ID, certificates and the diploma document all carry separate fees. Ask your faculty for the current emolument table, since amounts differ by institution and are revised periodically. Graduating students pay a diploma issuance fee that rose from 4,000 Kz to 20,000 Kz across public universities.

Other public universities outside Luanda generally follow a similar fee structure, since the government sets base tuition bands across public institutions. Confirm the current table directly with your university before enrolling, as adjustments happen from year to year.

Private university tuition

Private universities set their own fees and adjust them annually, usually in line with inflation. For the 2025/26 academic year, private institutions raised fees by around 20.74% , matching the year-on-year inflation rate recorded in May 2025.

Published monthly tuition figures for private universities are scarce and quickly go stale. A 2019 Expansão survey found monthly fees between 26,000 and 39,000 Kz, but after several years of inflation-indexed increases current figures are much higher. 2025/26 reporting put some Universidade Metodista courses at around 79,446 Kz a month. Ask each institution for its current fee schedule rather than relying on published ranges. Costs vary by institution, course, and year of study, with health science and engineering courses often priced above humanities and social science courses.

Extra costs beyond tuition

Tuition is rarely your biggest expense once you add housing, transport, food, and course materials, particularly if you study in Luanda. Luanda ranks among the more expensive cities in Africa for rent and daily costs, while provincial capitals such as Huambo, Lubango, and Benguela cost noticeably less to live in.

Textbooks and course materials add a smaller but steady cost each semester. Budget for internet access too, since many courses expect you to submit assignments and check results online.

Building a monthly budget

No single official source publishes a standard student living budget for Angola, so build your own estimate from local rental listings and everyday prices in your city. A shared room near campus in Luanda commonly costs from around 180,000 Kz a month upward on the private rental market, while a room in a provincial city typically costs less. Add food, transport, phone and internet credit, and a buffer for unexpected costs to get a realistic monthly total.

Talk to current students in your target course and city before committing to a budget. Costs shift with the exchange rate and local inflation, so recheck your numbers each academic year rather than relying on figures from a previous cycle.
