Applying to BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan Universities at the Same Time
By Muntasir Minhaz • Published Apr 15, 2026 • Admissions & Applications, Canadian Universities & Colleges
BC and Alberta each run one shared application system for their public universities. Manitoba and Saskatchewan do not, so you apply straight to each university's own portal.
🎓 EducationPlannerBC covers application to BC's 25 public post-secondary institutions through one account (UBC and SFU are not part of this network).
ApplyAlberta covers Alberta's 26 publicly funded post-secondary institutions through one account, run by the non-profit Alberta Post-Secondary Application System.
University of Manitoba and University of Saskatchewan each need a separate application through their own website.
📩 You request official transcripts separately for each system, even when two universities sit in the same province.
⏱️ Track four separate deadlines and four separate fee payments if you apply across all four provinces in one cycle.
Four provinces, two shared systems and two solo portals
Applying across Western Canada means learning two different models in the same admission cycle. British Columbia and Alberta each centralize applications through one platform that reaches every public institution in the province. Manitoba and Saskatchewan send you straight to each university's own application system instead. Plan for both models if your list spans all four provinces.
A step-by-step plan for one admission season
List every university and program you want, sorted by province.
Order official transcripts from your high school early, since some systems take a week or more to process a request.
Create your EducationPlannerBC account first if BC schools are on your list, then your ApplyAlberta account, then a separate account on each Manitoba and Saskatchewan university's own site.
Submit each application with its own fee, then confirm receipt through each system's own status tracker.
Write every deadline into one calendar the moment you get your account confirmations, since each system will not remind you about a deadline on a different platform.
British Columbia: EducationPlannerBC
EducationPlannerBC lets you apply to any of BC's 25 public post-secondary institutions (UBC and SFU are not part of this network and each run their own separate application system) through one free account at apply.educationplannerbc.ca. Create your account once, then submit separate applications to each BC institution and program you want from inside that same account. The platform also handles transcript submission and lets you track your applications in one place instead of juggling separate logins for every BC school.
Alberta: ApplyAlberta
ApplyAlberta works the same way for Alberta's 26 publicly funded post-secondary institutions. It is run by the not-for-profit Alberta Post-Secondary Application System and has processed more than 2 million applications since it launched. You only need a basic Alberta.ca account, not a verified one, to start applying. From that single account you send applications and transcript-transfer requests to any Alberta public university or college on your list.
Manitoba and Saskatchewan: apply directly to each university
Neither Manitoba nor Saskatchewan runs a centralized application system. If you want to apply to the University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina in the same cycle, create a separate account and submit a separate application on each university's own admissions website. Each one has its own deadlines, its own document upload system and its own application fee, so budget the extra time and separate fee payments that a centralized system would otherwise combine.
EducationPlannerBC and ApplyAlberta do not talk to each other either
Having two centralized systems does not mean those two systems share your information. An application and transcript you submit through EducationPlannerBC stays inside EducationPlannerBC. You still create a completely separate ApplyAlberta account, and a completely separate transcript request, if Alberta schools are also on your list. Treat all four provinces as four separate relationships, even the two that feel more organized than the others.
Applying from outside these four provinces
You do not need to live in BC, Alberta, Manitoba or Saskatchewan to use any of these systems. EducationPlannerBC and ApplyAlberta both accept applicants from anywhere in Canada, and the same is true of the direct portals at University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina. Your Ontario, Quebec or Atlantic Canada transcript still goes through the same account creation and transcript request steps as a local applicant, though it may take an equivalency review before your specific courses map onto that province's requirements.
Budget for four separate fees
Each system charges its own application fee, and none of the four waives a fee because you already paid one somewhere else. Check the current fee on each system's own fee page before you submit, since fees are set separately by each system and change between cycles.
Keep your logins organized
Four accounts means four separate usernames, passwords and security questions to remember months after you set them up. Save your login details in one place, such as a password manager or a sealed note your parent also has access to, so a forgotten password does not cost you time close to a deadline. Screenshot or save your confirmation page every time you submit an application or a document, since some systems do not resend confirmation emails on request.
Keeping documents straight across all four
Order official transcripts early and expect to send them separately to each system, since EducationPlannerBC, ApplyAlberta, and the Manitoba and Saskatchewan universities do not share transcript data with each other. Keep a simple tracking sheet of your own: university, portal, account login, deadline, fee paid, transcript sent. That single sheet is the easiest way to avoid missing a deadline when you are managing four separate systems instead of one.
Deadlines will not line up
Application deadlines differ by province, by institution and sometimes by program within the same institution. Confirm the exact date for each program directly on its own admissions page rather than assume BC and Alberta share a deadline calendar with Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Set your own personal deadline a week or two ahead of the earliest official one on your list, so a processing delay in one system does not put your other applications at risk.
