The Centre national de l'Information, de l'Orientation Scolaire et Professionnelle et des Bourses (CIOSPB) organizes admission into Burkina Faso's public universities, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. CIOSPB replaced its paper-based orientation with a digital platform, CampusFaso , starting in 2018. Every new baccalauréat holder who wants a public university place goes through this platform, not through direct applications to individual universities.

Not every applicant gets their first choice, and seats at popular faculties like law, medicine, and economics fill fast. Université Nazi Boni in Bobo-Dioulasso covers agricultural sciences, health sciences, and exact sciences. Université Norbert Zongo in Koudougou specializes in education and teacher training. Smaller public university centers in towns like Dédougou, Ouahigouya, and Fada N'Gourma bring select programs closer to students outside the two biggest cities.
