The Kenya National Examinations Council releases Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results through its official results portal, results.knec.ac.ke . Go to the site, select KCSE results, then enter your index number and at least one name exactly as it appears on your examination documents. Accept the data privacy notice and submit to see your grades.

Your school also receives official printed result slips and a full printout for every candidate. If the online portal is slow because of high traffic on release day, or briefly unreachable, visit your school to collect your result slip instead.

Checking results by SMS

KNEC has offered an SMS shortcode service in past years, where you send your index number to 20076 for a small per-message charge. For the 2025 KCSE results release, KNEC moved candidates toward online-only checking and dropped the SMS shortcode option, so confirm which channels are active before results day rather than assuming the SMS method still works. KNEC's website and circulars sent to schools list the official methods in use each year.

Understanding your result slip

Your slip lists a grade for every subject you sat, plus your overall mean grade. Read the key on the slip carefully, since a symbol next to a subject changes how that subject counts toward your mean grade and toward KUCCPS placement.

Verifying certificate authenticity

Employers, universities, and colleges that need to confirm a KCSE certificate is genuine can verify it directly with KNEC rather than relying on the certificate alone. KNEC holds the official examination records and responds to authentication requests submitted through its offices or website. If you lost your certificate or need proof of your results for an application abroad, request an official transcript or certified true copy from KNEC instead of using an unofficial printout.

Treat any KCSE result checker outside the official KNEC portal with caution. Fake sites and social media links that promise faster results are a common scam around release time, and they can expose your personal details or charge fees the real service does not.
