How to Apply to Universities in Cyprus: Requirements, Deadlines and Portals

No central application system

Cyprus has no shared application portal comparable to UCAS in the UK or Studielink in the Netherlands. Every public and private university runs its own admissions office, its own online application form and its own deadline. Shortlist the universities and programs you want, then apply to each one separately through its website.

How Cypriot students get into public universities

Students who finish secondary school in Cyprus compete for public university places through the Pancyprian Examinations, a set of national exams held each June. Your exam scores rank you against other applicants for each program, and places go by rank order until seats fill. This route applies to students educated in the Cypriot school system, not to applicants arriving from another European country with a foreign school-leaving qualification.

How students from other European countries apply

Private universities generally accept your original foreign diploma directly for admission purposes, without requiring KYSATS recognition first, though you may still need it later for professional licensing in regulated fields such as medicine, law or teaching.

Public universities publish a single admissions cycle each year for the September intake, with the application window generally open in spring. Private universities tend to run more flexible intakes, commonly in September and February, and some accept applications through the summer for the autumn semester. Check the specific deadline on your target university's admissions page, since dates shift from year to year and differ by program.

After you apply

Universities in Cyprus typically confirm your place by email, followed by a formal offer letter you use for visa or residence permit applications. Some ask for a deposit to hold your seat, deducted from your first tuition payment if tuition applies to you.
