TL;DR

Application windows differ sharply by country. UCAS's main UK deadline for 2027 entry is 13 January 2027, while Sweden's autumn 2027 window runs 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027. Germany, the Netherlands, France, Ireland, and Poland each run their own separate calendar, so check every country you apply to individually.

  • 🎓 UCAS (UK): 15 Oct 2026 for Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry, and vet courses, 13 Jan 2027 for most other courses

  • 💶 universityadmissions.se (Sweden): 16 Oct 2026 to 15 Jan 2027 for autumn 2027 entry

  • 📩 uni-assist (Germany): 15 July for winter-semester starts, 15 January for summer-semester starts

  • 🏠 Studielink (Netherlands): 15 January for capped (numerus fixus) programs, 1 May for most others

  • ⏱️ CAO (Ireland): 1 February standard deadline for the following September's intake

  • Poland's IRK system has no single national deadline. Every university runs its own window

European University Application Deadlines: A Country-by-Country Calendar

Why there is no single European deadline

Every European country runs its own centralized or decentralized application system, on its own calendar, with its own rules for what counts as on time. There is no EU-wide deadline. If you apply to universities in more than one country, you manage several independent calendars at once, often with deadlines months apart from each other.

This calendar covers the main national portals for the application cycle leading into autumn 2027 entry. Confirmed dates are marked. Where a country had not yet published its exact 2027 dates at the time of writing, the typical recurring month pattern is given instead, and you should confirm the exact date on the official portal closer to the time.

France: Parcoursup

Parcoursup opens its course directory in mid-December, and you register and enter your preferences over the following weeks. In the 2026 cycle, the platform opened on 17 December 2025, wish entry closed 12 March 2026, and you had until 1 April 2026 to confirm and finalize your file, with admission decisions running from 2 June to 11 July 2026 and a complementary phase continuing to 10 September 2026, per the official Parcoursup calendar . The 2027 cycle was not yet published at the time of writing, but expect the same months to repeat.

UK: UCAS

For 2027 entry, UCAS sets two deadlines. Oxford, Cambridge, and most medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and veterinary science courses close on 15 October 2026 at 18:00 UK time. Every other course falls under the equal consideration deadline of 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time, meaning applications received by then are considered together rather than on a first-come basis, according to UCAS . UCAS Extra, for applicants without an offer, opens 25 February 2027.

Germany: uni-assist

Germany does not run one national deadline. Many universities process international applications through uni-assist, and the commonly used cutoffs are 15 July for programs starting in the winter semester and 15 January for programs starting in the summer semester, according to uni-assist . Several universities and programs, particularly master's courses and medicine, set earlier individual deadlines, so confirm the exact date on your target university's own admissions page.

Dutch numerus fixus (capped) programs, including medicine and dentistry, require your application by 15 January for a September start, after which the university runs its own selection process. Most other bachelor's programs use a later deadline, generally 1 May, per university admissions guidance . Applying after the numerus fixus deadline usually rules you out for that intake year, so treat 15 January as a hard cutoff if your target program is capped.

Ireland: CAO

The Central Applications Office runs undergraduate admissions for Irish universities and institutes of technology. The standard application deadline is 1 February for entry the following September, according to CAO . A later change-of-mind window lets you revise your course preferences after this date, but your initial application needs to be in by 1 February to use it.

Sweden: universityadmissions.se

Sweden's national application system opens on 16 October 2026 and closes 15 January 2027 for programs starting in autumn 2027, according to universityadmissions.se . This single window covers both Swedish and international applicants applying to bachelor's and master's programs taught in English.

Poland: IRK

Poland has no single national application deadline. Each university runs its own IRK (Internetowa Rejestracja Kandydatow) online registration system, with its own opening date, deadline, and document requirements for every program. Go directly to your target university's IRK page rather than assume a shared national date applies.

What happens if you miss a deadline

Missing one country's deadline does not end your options for that intake year. UCAS runs Clearing after its main cycles close, matching applicants without a place to courses with remaining space. Parcoursup runs a complementary phase into September for programs that still have places after the main round. If you miss every relevant deadline for one intake year, look at countries with later or rolling deadlines, or plan to apply for the following year's cycle instead.

How to use this calendar

Work backward from your earliest deadline, not your preferred country. If you consider both Dutch numerus fixus programs and French Parcoursup, your Studielink deadline of 15 January falls months before Parcoursup's typical wish-confirmation date, so your Dutch application needs to be ready first. Build your document list (transcripts, language certificates, motivation letters) around whichever country closes first, and treat every other deadline as a checkpoint after that.
