How to Set Up an OUAC Account and Submit an OUAC 101 Application

What You Need Before You Start

Talk to your guidance counsellor before opening an account. Ontario secondary schools issue OUAC 101 applicants a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that links your online account to your school's records. Without it, you cannot register a 101 application at all. Most schools run a group session early in the fall term where this PIN gets handed out along with instructions specific to your school's process.

Have these ready before you log in:

• Your PIN from your guidance office

• Your Ontario Education Number (OEN), found on your report card

• A list of universities and programs you want to apply to, plus each program's exact name

• A credit card or other accepted payment method for the application fee

Step 1: Create Your OUAC Account

Go to the OUAC undergraduate application guide and select the 101 application. Enter your PIN and OEN when prompted. The system creates your account and links it to your school's data feed, which is what lets your grades travel to universities without you re-entering them by hand.

Step 2: Enter Your Personal and Contact Information

Fill in your legal name exactly as it appears on your school records, your date of birth, mailing address, and a personal email address you check often. Universities and OUAC both use this email for status updates, so avoid a school email account you lose access to after graduation.

Step 3: Confirm Your Course Information

Review the course list your school has submitted. This usually includes your current Grade 12 courses and the university or college preparation courses you completed in earlier grades. If a course is missing or listed incorrectly, flag it with your guidance office right away, since universities use this list to check you meet program prerequisites.

Step 4: Add Your Program Choices

Search for each university and select the exact program name from the dropdown list rather than typing it manually. Double-check the campus location where a university has more than one, since some institutions list the same program separately by campus. Review each choice before moving on, since program names that sound similar often lead to different admission requirements.

Step 5: Review, Pay, and Submit

OUAC shows you a summary of every choice before payment. Read it carefully, since changing a choice after submission is more complicated than correcting it now. Pay the application fee online by credit card to complete submission. Keep your payment confirmation and application reference number somewhere you can find them, since you need the reference number if you contact OUAC or a university about your file later.

Step 6: Watch for Follow-Up Requirements

Submitting your OUAC application is not always the last step. Many universities run their own applicant portal for supplementary items such as personal statements, portfolios, auditions, or program-specific questionnaires. Check the OUInfo help section and each university's own admissions page within a few days of submitting, since some supplementary requirements carry their own separate deadline earlier than the general equal consideration date.

Step 7: Track Your Status

Log back into your OUAC account throughout the winter and spring to confirm your school-sent grades appear correctly and to check for messages from universities. Most Ontario universities also give you a separate applicant portal login once they receive your file, so watch your personal email for that setup message and register for it as soon as it arrives.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Using a school email address you lose access to after grade 12 ends

• Entering a program by typing its name instead of selecting it from the official list

• Assuming submission to OUAC covers every university-specific supplementary form

• Waiting until the days before the equal consideration date to submit, leaving no time to fix an error

After You Submit

Your school continues sending updated grades to OUAC through the rest of the year, including mid-year and final marks. You do not need to resubmit anything for this to happen. Check your account periodically instead of assuming silence means a problem, and reach out to your guidance office if a university flags a missing document that you believe your school already sent.

If You Don't Have Your PIN Yet

Do not try to work around a missing PIN by guessing or reusing a number a classmate shares with you. Each PIN is tied to your individual school record. Contact your guidance office directly if you missed the group session where PINs were distributed, and expect a short wait while the school confirms your identity before issuing one.

Saving Your Progress

You do not need to finish your OUAC application in one sitting. The system saves your entries as you go, so you can log out after entering your personal information, come back later to add program choices, and only pay and submit once every section is complete. Use this to your advantage. Enter what you know now, then return once you have finished researching your program list rather than rushing a final decision in one session.

Double-Check Before You Pay

Payment finalizes your submission. Before you reach that screen, reread your program choices, your contact information, and your course list one more time. A typo in your email address means you miss status updates, and a wrong campus selection can send your file to a program you never intended to apply to.
