How JAMB CAPS Admission Offers Work and How to Accept One
By Muntasir Minhaz • Published Aug 07, 2026 • Africa Admissions & Exams
JAMB places every admission offer inside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). You check your status, accept or reject the offer from your CAPS profile, and print your admission letter only after you accept.
🎓 CAPS matches you to one active offer at a time from the institution and course you applied for.
📩 Accept by biometric verification at an accredited JAMB CBT centre, or send ACCEPT to 55019 or 66019 from your registered phone number.
⏱️ Once you accept, JAMB removes you from consideration everywhere else. Your decision cannot be reversed.
🏠 Reject an offer if you want to stay open for a different institution or course, then wait for a new offer or apply through a supplementary list.
What CAPS Does
The Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is the platform the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) uses to issue, track, and record every admission offer made by a Nigerian tertiary institution. Once a university, polytechnic, or college of education recommends you for a course, that offer lands in your CAPS profile, not by letter or email. You do not get admitted until you see it there and act on it.
CAPS holds one active offer at a time. If an institution recommends you, the system displays the institution name, course, and admission type (UTME, Direct Entry, or Change of Course/Institution). You respond from the same screen.
How to Check Your Admission Status
Log in to your CAPS profile through the JAMB e-facility portal with your JAMB registration number and password. Under your admission profile, look for a status such as Admission Offered, Not Admitted, or Awaiting Institution's Action. Only a status of Admission Offered gives you the option to accept or reject.
Check the portal on a desktop browser or request the desktop site if you are on a phone, since some CAPS functions do not render fully on the mobile view.
How to Accept an Admission Offer
Log in to your CAPS profile and confirm the offer details (institution, course, admission type) are correct.
Accept using biometric verification at any accredited JAMB CBT centre, where your fingerprint confirms the acceptance.
Alternatively, send ACCEPT to 55019 or 66019 as a text message from the phone number registered on your JAMB profile.
Wait for a confirmation SMS. Your CAPS status changes to reflect the accepted offer.
Print your admission letter from the portal. You cannot print it before you accept.
How to Reject an Offer
Click the Reject button on your CAPS admission profile, or send REJECT to 55019 or 66019 from your registered number. Reject an offer if you prefer a different institution or course and want to remain eligible for other admission rounds, including a supplementary list or a later offer through the JAMB Marketplace.
Reject carefully. Once you send it, the decision is final for that offer and you cannot ask JAMB to restore it.
What Happens After You Accept
Accepting one offer takes you out of consideration for every other application, including any Direct Entry or Change of Institution request still pending. Your admission letter becomes your proof of placement for the institution's own registration and clearance process. Keep it, along with your JAMB result slip and O-level certificates, for physical clearance at your institution.
JAMB announces the deadline to respond to an offer at the start of each admission cycle, on the portal and through SMS to registered candidates. Missing that window puts your slot at risk of being reassigned, so respond as soon as an offer appears rather than waiting.
