Two different ways to earn an Australian degree in Singapore
James Cook University Singapore and Curtin Singapore both let you complete a full Australian bachelor's or master's degree without leaving Singapore. Neither is a twinning or partnership program. Both are branch campuses that award the same-named degree certificate issued by the Australian home university.
James Cook University Singapore
JCU Singapore started in 2003 as the James Cook Institute of Higher Learning before James Cook University took it over, and it became the first overseas institution to hold university status in Singapore in 2016. The campus moved to its current site at 149 Sims Drive, between Kallang and Geylang, in 2015, on the former Manjusri Secondary School grounds.
JCU Singapore runs on a trimester calendar rather than the two-semester structure common in Malaysia and Australia, so you can finish some degrees faster by studying through what would otherwise be a break. Degrees are conferred by James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland, and fall under Australia's Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency .
Curtin Singapore
Curtin Singapore opened in November 2008 and relocated in 2022 to The Alpha building in Singapore Science Park 2, Queenstown. Around 3,500 students were enrolled as of 2024. Unlike most private education providers in Singapore, Curtin Singapore operates directly under Curtin University in Perth rather than through a separate local operating company, following what Curtin calls its One Curtin model, so the curriculum matches every other Curtin campus, including Perth.
Degrees are issued by Curtin University, Australia, and carry the same TEQSA-regulated accreditation as a degree earned in Perth.
Regulation inside Singapore
Private education institutions operating in Singapore register under the private education framework administered by SkillsFuture Singapore, which absorbed the former Council for Private Education's regulatory functions in 2016. Confirm a program's current registration status directly with the institution before enrolling, since registration applies per program, not automatically to every course a provider offers.

Branch campus versus studying in Australia
Staying in Singapore means you skip the Australian student visa application, the higher cost of living in Townsville or Perth, and the flights home. You study in English within a Southeast Asian setting close to family, while keeping a degree that reads the same on paper as one earned on the Australian campus.
What you give up is direct, on-the-ground exposure to the Australian labor market during your studies, along with any post-study work visa pathway that depends on completing your degree physically in Australia. If your career plan includes working in Australia after graduation, check Australia's Department of Home Affairs visa requirements before assuming a Singapore-earned degree qualifies you the same way a degree completed in Australia does.
Cost of living in Singapore
Singapore carries one of the highest costs of living in Southeast Asia, so tuition savings from skipping an Australian visa get partly offset by local rent and daily expenses. Students commuting from Malaysia or sharing housing typically manage costs better than those renting alone near the city center. Weigh total cost, not only tuition, against what a semester in Townsville or Perth would cost once you add Australian rent and the visa application.
Choosing between them
Choose JCU Singapore if a trimester calendar and a faster course completion timeline matter to you
Choose Curtin Singapore if you want a campus run directly by the Australian university rather than through a separate local entity
Compare current program lists and tuition directly on each university's Singapore admissions page, since both change offerings and fees by intake
Admission requirements
Both campuses set entry requirements around your existing qualifications, such as A-Levels, a local diploma, or a recognized foundation program, plus an English proficiency score for applicants whose prior education was not conducted in English. Since both universities answer to their Australian home campus for academic standards, the entry bar tends to track what the same program would require in Townsville or Perth, adjusted for the qualifications common among applicants in Singapore and the wider region.
Postgraduate options
Both JCU Singapore and Curtin Singapore run postgraduate programs alongside their undergraduate offerings, mainly in business, education and health-related fields. A postgraduate qualification from either campus carries the same weight as one from the Australian home campus when you apply for further study or professional registration, since the accrediting body and degree structure match across every campus under each university's name.
Scholarships and financial aid
Both JCU Singapore and Curtin Singapore offer a limited number of merit-based scholarships to strong applicants, covering part of the tuition in most cases rather than the full cost. Singapore's SkillsFuture subsidies target Singapore citizens and permanent residents, so most international students on these campuses do not qualify for them, and you should check your own nationality's eligibility before assuming a local subsidy applies to your fees.
Student visa requirements in Singapore
International students enrolling at either campus apply for a Student's Pass through Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, a more straightforward process than an Australian student visa application, since you are entering Singapore rather than Australia. Check the current Student's Pass requirements directly on the ICA website before you apply, since documentation requirements can change.
