Tuition: low by design
Myanmar's state universities charge tuition that is nominal compared to most of the region, because the government subsidises public higher education directly. At Myanmar Institute of Information Technology (MIIT), a public technological university, bachelor's degree tuition runs about 25,000 kyat per semester. MIIT's fees page lists the current schedule.
What that means in dollars depends on which exchange rate you use. Myanmar runs an official rate, close to 2,100 kyat per dollar in 2025, alongside a market rate that traded closer to 3,900-4,200 kyat per dollar the same year. Budget with the rate available to you when you convert money, not the official one, since the gap between the two runs wide.

Living costs in the main student cities
Most students study in Yangon or Mandalay, Myanmar's two largest cities, so living costs there set the baseline for a realistic budget. Sharing a room or a flat with other students, common practice in both cities, cuts your rent share well below the full one-bedroom figure. Ways to cut costs
Choose a university close to home where possible, since commuting from a family home avoids rent altogether. Where that is not an option, university hostels and shared private rooms both cost less than a private one-bedroom flat.
