NYSC Registration: Mobilization, Batches and Documents Needed

By Muntasir Minhaz • Published Aug 07, 2026 • Career Planning

TL;DR

NYSC registration runs online at nysc.gov.ng in three yearly batches (A, B, C), each split into Stream I and Stream II by when your school finishes the academic session. You need a National Identification Number, your final year ID, statement of result, transcript request, and international passport data page before you start.

  • 🎓 Your school must submit your name on the graduate list to NYSC before you can register.

  • 📩 A NIN is compulsory. Registration will not proceed without one.

  • 🏠 You pick preferred deployment states, but NYSC assigns the final state.

  • ⏱️ After online registration you attend a physical verification session, then report to an orientation camp.

NYSC Registration: Mobilization, Batches and Documents Needed

Who Must Register for NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps is a compulsory one-year national service program for Nigerian graduates of accredited universities and polytechnics who are under 30 at the time their institution confirms their graduation. If you hold a degree or Higher National Diploma from a Nigerian institution, or a foreign degree recognized by NYSC, you register unless you qualify for exemption or exclusion.

Registration and mobilization are handled entirely through the official portal at nysc.gov.ng .

Avoid any third-party site asking for payment to register or fast-track your call-up letter.

NYSC does not charge for registration itself.

Before You Register: Your School's Role

You cannot register on your own initiative the moment you finish your final exams. Your university or polytechnic first compiles a graduate list, sometimes called the senate list, and submits it to NYSC through the National Universities Commission or National Board for Technical Education channel.

Only after your name appears on this list does the portal let you create a registration profile.

This is why registration timing differs by institution. Schools that release results and convocate early feed into earlier batches, while schools that finish later feed into later batches or streams within a batch.

Batches and Streams Explained

NYSC mobilizes graduates in three batches across a service year, labelled Batch A, Batch B and Batch C. Each batch is split into two streams, Stream I and Stream II, to spread out the volume of new corps members arriving at orientation camps. Batch C typically closes the service year and absorbs institutions and individuals who missed earlier windows, including a subgroup sometimes called Batch C Stream II or the correction/late batch.

Registration for each batch and stream opens for a limited window on the portal, usually a week to a few weeks. Check the portal directly for the exact dates that apply to your batch, since these shift from year to year.

Documents You Need

DocumentWhy it is needed
National Identification Number (NIN)Compulsory identity check before profile creation
Statement of result or original degree/HND certificateConfirms you graduated and your course of study
Official transcript request/reference numberVerifies your academic record independently of your school
International passport data pageUsed for identity verification and biometric capture
Recent passport photographUploaded to your NYSC profile and printed on your call-up letter
Final year student ID cardCross-checked at your physical verification appointment

Keep both digital scans and physical originals ready.

You upload scans during online registration, but you present the originals at a physical verification center before your call-up letter is confirmed, according to guidance published on the NYSC portal .

How to Register Online

  1. Go to the Mobilization section of nysc.gov.ng and select Fresh Registration.

  2. Enter your NIN and let the system pull your bio-data from the National Identity Database.

  3. Fill in your institution, course, class of degree, and graduation details exactly as they appear on your statement of result.

  4. Upload the required documents in the formats and size limits the portal specifies.

  5. Select your preferred states of deployment. You rank choices, but NYSC's algorithm makes the final assignment based on quota and need across states.

  6. Book a verification center and date, then print your registration slip.

According to a step-by-step walkthrough published by TechCabal , mismatched names or spelling differences between your NIN, transcript and certificate are the most common reasons registration gets stuck.

Confirm every document uses the same name format before you start.

After Registration: Verification and Camp

Once registration closes for your batch, you attend physical verification at your chosen center, where officials check your original documents against your uploaded profile.

If everything matches, NYSC issues your call-up letter, which states your assigned state of deployment and the date to report to orientation camp.

Orientation camp lasts three weeks. You arrive with your call-up letter, originals of your credentials, and the personal items listed on your letter. Camp includes registration checks, medical screening, and the start of your posting process to a Place of Primary Assignment within your deployment state.
