Polytechnics, Colleges and TVET in Morocco: Routes Beyond University

TL;DR

OFPPT runs Morocco's main vocational training network, ISTA and ITA institutes offering certificates from basic Specialisation up to the Bac+2 Diplome de Technicien Specialise, which state jobs recognize and which can bridge into a university Licence Professionnelle later.

  • 🎓 OFPPT levels run Specialisation, Qualification, Technicien and Technicien Specialise (Bac+2), the top tier.

  • 📩 Apply through myway.ac.ma: online preregistration followed by a physical file submission.

  • ⏱️ Technicien-level entry needs a completed second year of bac or a Qualification-level diploma, with a maximum age of 30.

  • 🏠 A Diplome de Technicien Specialise can bridge into a Licence Professionnelle at a public university through a passerelle.

Polytechnics, Colleges and TVET in Morocco: Routes Beyond University

Why Consider a Non-University Route

Not every student wants or needs a four-year university degree straight after the bac. Morocco's vocational and technical system gives you a faster route into specific, in-demand jobs, often in two years or less, with state recognition and, at the top level, a path back into university later if you choose. TVET graduates typically enter the job market one to three years earlier than a university Licence graduate, in fields where employers value a practical skill set as much as, or more than, a theoretical degree.

OFPPT: The Main Vocational Training Body

The Office de la Formation Professionnelle et de la Promotion du Travail (OFPPT ) runs Morocco's largest network of vocational institutes, including Instituts Specialises de Technologie Appliquee (ISTA) and Instituts de Technologie Appliquee (ITA). Programs cover fields such as digital and IT, industry and manufacturing, management and administration, health and paramedical support, tourism and hospitality, logistics, construction and modern crafts.

The Four OFPPT Levels

LevelTypical entryWhat you get
SpecialisationLower secondary levelCertificat de Specialisation
QualificationSome secondary schoolingDiplome de Qualification Professionnelle
TechnicienCompleted 2nd year of bac, or a Qualification diplomaDiplome de Technicien
Technicien SpecialiseBac or Technicien diplomaDiplome de Technicien Specialise (Bac+2)

The Technicien level accepts candidates who completed their second year of bac even without passing the final exam, or who already hold a Qualification-level diploma, with a maximum entry age of 30. The Diplome de Technicien Specialise, the top OFPPT credential, is state-recognized and opens access to Moroccan public-sector jobs alongside private-sector roles.

How to Apply

Registration runs through the online portal myway.ac.ma . You complete an online preregistration first, listing your preferred institute and specialization, then submit a physical file at the institute once shortlisted. Popular specializations in digital fields and health draw far more applications than available seats, so apply as soon as the portal opens and list backup specializations. Alongside classroom-based tracks, OFPPT also runs an alternance (work-study) format at some institutes, mixing time on the training floor with placements inside partner companies, which suits students who want hands-on experience built into their program from the start.

Private Vocational Institutes

Beyond OFPPT's public network, private vocational and technical institutes operate across Morocco's major cities, covering fields such as IT, digital marketing, graphic design, hospitality management and paramedical training. Quality and recognition vary far more than in the public system, so check whether a private institute's diploma carries state equivalence before enrolling, and compare its fees directly against OFPPT's far lower public rates. Ask any private institute for its graduate employment record and named employer partners before enrolling, the same way you would vet a private university.

Teacher Training and Health Institutes

Outside the OFPPT network, Morocco runs separate specialized public institutes for specific professions. Centres Regionaux des Metiers de l'Education et de la Formation (CRMEF) train future teachers, typically admitting bac holders or Licence graduates depending on the teaching level targeted, through a competitive entrance process. Instituts Superieurs des Professions Infirmieres et Techniques de Sante (ISPITS) train nurses and health technicians under the Ministry of Health, also through a selective entrance process based on your bac record.

Bridging Back Into a Degree

A Diplome de Technicien Specialise does not have to be your final qualification. Many public universities run passerelle (bridge) arrangements that let DTS holders enter directly into the third year of a related Licence Professionnelle, cutting the time needed to reach a full Bac+3 degree. Availability and criteria for these bridges differ by university and specialization, so ask your target faculty directly about their current passerelle agreements before you plan around one. Start this conversation during your final OFPPT year rather than after graduating, since some passerelle applications run on the same summer calendar as regular university admissions.

Choosing Between University and TVET

  • Choose OFPPT or a specialized institute if you want a faster route into a specific trade or technical job, with lower cost and shorter duration than a full degree.

  • Choose university if your target career requires a full Licence or higher, such as law, medicine or most engineering specializations.

  • Remember the two paths are not mutually exclusive. A Technicien Specialise diploma plus a passerelle can get you to a Licence Professionnelle faster than starting a Licence from year one.
