What QuestBridge National College Match does
QuestBridge is a nonprofit that connects high-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with full four-year scholarships at 55 partner colleges , including many highly selective schools. The application and the Match process cost nothing.
The program targets students who might otherwise assume selective colleges are out of reach because of cost, and it removes that barrier by pairing a full scholarship with the admission decision itself rather than leaving you to negotiate aid after acceptance.

How the application works
You complete one QuestBridge application with short-answer questions, essays, an activities list, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. After you submit, you rank up to 15 partner colleges in order of preference through the Match Rankings Form. QuestBridge and the colleges review your file together and decide whether to offer you a Match at one of the schools you ranked.

The Match Agreement Form needs signatures from you, a parent or guardian, and your school counselor, so start that paperwork before the October deadline crunch.
What happens if you match
A Match offer is binding. If a partner college offers you a Match, you commit to enroll there and withdraw applications you submitted to other schools. QuestBridge's 2025 Match results confirm that a Match Scholarship covers tuition, housing, food, books, supplies, and travel, with no loans and no parental contribution required. That same cycle, partner colleges matched 2,550 Finalists to become QuestBridge Scholars for the Class of 2030.
Tips for ranking your colleges
Rank schools in the order you would actually attend, not by name recognition alone
Research each school's aid policy and campus culture before you rank it, since a Match commits you to enroll
Talk to current students or alumni from your area if you can find them through your school or a community organization
Do not rank a college you would turn down if matched, since you cannot back out once you accept
What happens if you do not match
Not matching does not end your chances. QuestBridge applicants who are not matched become Regular Decision candidates and apply to any number of partner colleges through the QuestBridge Regular Decision process, which uses the same application on a non-binding basis. Many QuestBridge applicants who do not match in the fall still get admitted and receive strong aid packages this way.
Getting a head start as a junior
QuestBridge also runs the College Prep Scholars Program for high school juniors from households earning less than $65,000 a year for a family of four. In 2026, QuestBridge selected 3,852 College Prep Scholars, who get summer program scholarships, college advising, and a fast track into the following year's National College Match. College Prep Scholars are five times more likely than other applicants to receive a Match scholarship.
How to strengthen your application
Take the most rigorous courses your school offers and keep your GPA strong through senior year
Write essays that show your background and how you handled challenges, going beyond a list of achievements
Ask teachers and counselors who know you well for recommendations, and give them time before the deadline
Research each partner college before ranking it, since a Match is binding and you should only rank schools you would attend
Request your official transcript early, since school offices take time to process records during application season
Proofread every short answer, since QuestBridge reviewers read thousands of applications in a short window
Is the extra work worth it?
The QuestBridge application takes longer than a typical scholarship form, since it includes multiple essays and short-answer questions on top of your regular college application materials. A Match covers your full cost of attendance at any of the 55 partner colleges, so most eligible students find the extra time worth it, even if they end up applying Regular Decision instead of matching.
