Scholarships, Bursaries and Student Loans in Egypt
By Muntasir Minhaz • Published Mar 23, 2026 • African Countries & Cities, African Scholarships & Student Funding
Egypt has no single national student loan body like some African countries. Funding comes from a mix of bank education loans, foundation scholarships such as Misr El-Kheir, and targeted programs like Nasser Social Bank's scholarships that cover full tuition, housing, and meals at partner private universities in fields such as medicine, nursing, and computer science.
🏦 Bank education loans: available from Banque Misr and other commercial banks, repaid after or during study.
💵 Nasser Social Bank: full tuition, housing, and meals for 4-5 years at six named partner private universities.
📩 Misr El-Kheir Foundation: grants for masters and PhD research, plus a graduation projects support program.
Apply for foundation and bank funding directly; none of these route through Tansiq.
How Student Funding Works in Egypt
Public university tuition in Egypt is already low for Egyptian citizens, so the country never built one large national student loan system the way some other African countries have. Instead, funding gaps show up mainly around private university tuition, postgraduate research, and living costs, and a mix of banks, foundations, and targeted programs fill that gap rather than a single central agency.
Bank Education Loans
Commercial banks including Banque Misr offer education loans that cover tuition at accredited universities, disbursed directly to the university or through a payment plan tied to your enrollment. Terms, interest rates, and required collateral or a guarantor vary by bank and shift with monetary policy, so confirm current terms directly through the bank's education loan page before applying rather than relying on figures from a previous year.
Nasser Social Bank Scholarships
Nasser Social Bank funds scholarships covering full tuition, student housing, and meals for four to five years of undergraduate study at a set list of partner private universities: King Salman International University, Assiut Private University, South Valley Private University, Sohag Private University, New Valley Private University, and Luxor Private University. Eligible majors include medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, computer science and artificial intelligence, agriculture, business administration, tourism, and arts and design. Apply directly through Nasser Social Bank rather than through your target university, and confirm current eligibility criteria and application windows with the bank before assuming last cycle's list still applies.
Misr El-Kheir Foundation
Misr El-Kheir Foundation, established in 2007, runs education funding under its social solidarity and education programs alongside health, scientific research, and community initiatives. Its Graduation Projects Support Program targets final-year students in governmental scientific faculties and higher institutes, covering financial support and skills-building tied to a specific academic year's cohort. The 2025/26 intake's second round ran from 22 September to 10 November 2025, according to the foundation's program page . Separately, the foundation offers grants for masters and PhD study in agriculture, engineering, sciences, social studies, education, and scientific research.
Other Routes Worth Checking
University financial aid offices sometimes hold small internal bursaries funded by alumni or corporate donors, particularly at private universities competing for strong applicants. Corporate scholarship programs also appear periodically in fields tied to specific industries, such as banking, telecoms, or engineering, usually announced through the sponsoring company directly rather than through a central database. Ask your faculty's student affairs office what internal or corporate funding it has access to before assuming bank loans or the major foundations are your only options.
How to Apply
Confirm your program and university qualify for the specific fund. Most Egyptian scholarships name eligible universities or fields explicitly.
Gather your Thanaweya Amma certificate or university transcript, national ID, and household income documentation where means-testing applies.
Apply directly to the bank or foundation within its announced window. Missing the intake dates usually means waiting for the next cycle.
Keep proof of enrollment and grades on hand, since most funding renews yearly conditional on academic progress.
Watch official foundation and bank channels for each new academic year's intake dates, since windows open and close on a fixed annual schedule rather than staying open year-round.
