NSLSC now runs its online account through My Service Canada Account (MSCA). Set yours up before your first loan disbursement so a login delay does not hold up your funds.
📩 Register for MSCA with GCKey, a bank Sign-in Partner, or provincial sign-in if you are in Alberta or BC.
⏱️ Verify your identity through Interac if your bank supports it for instant access, or request a Personal Access Code by mail, which takes up to 10 business days.
🎓 Have your SIN, birth registration number, or unique client identifier ready before you start.
💵 Check the Funding Tracker in your account dashboard to see when your money is on the way.
Why you need this before your money arrives
Your Canada Student Loan and grant payments flow through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC), and NSLSC now manages online account access through My Service Canada Account (MSCA) . If you wait until disbursement week to register, an identity verification delay leaves you checking a blank dashboard while you wait for funds you already qualify for. Set up your account as soon as you have a confirmed loan.
What to have ready
Your birth registration number, or a unique client identifier if you have used federal student aid programs before.
Online banking access with a supported bank, if you plan to verify through Interac.
Step by step account setup
Go to the MSCA registration page linked from the NSLSC website and choose a sign-in method: GCKey, a bank Sign-in Partner, or provincial sign-in if you live in Alberta or British Columbia.
If you already used GCKey or a Sign-in Partner to access NSLSC before the MSCA move, use those same credentials to link your account rather than creating a new login.
Verify your identity. If your bank is BMO, CIBC, Desjardins, RBC, Scotiabank, or TD, Interac verification confirms you instantly.
If your bank is not on that list, request a Personal Access Code (PAC) by mail instead. Build in up to 10 business days for the PAC to arrive before you finish setup.
Once verified, log in to MSCA and locate your student loan information, including your loan balance and disbursement details.
Register early if you need a PAC
The PAC path is the slower of the two verification routes. If your first disbursement date is close and your bank does not support Interac verification, request your PAC the moment you know you need MSCA access rather than waiting for a reminder. A PAC that arrives after your funding date does not speed up, so starting early is the only way to avoid a wait.
What to check once you are in
Your Funding Tracker, which shows when your loan and grant money is on the way and how it will reach you.
Your confirmation of enrolment status with your school, since unconfirmed enrolment holds up a disbursement.
Your contact details, so NSLSC reaches you at the right address, phone number, and email for any updates.
If your program, school, or enrolment status changes after you register, report it through your account or your institution's financial aid office as soon as possible, since a mismatch between what NSLSC has on file and your actual enrolment pauses your funding.
Where to get help
If your MSCA registration stalls or you cannot confirm your identity through either method, contact NSLSC directly through the NSLSC website rather than waiting for the issue to resolve on its own. Loan and grant disbursements are tied to your confirmed account, so an unresolved login problem is worth a call before your funding date.
Using the account on your phone
MSCA works through a browser on mobile as well as desktop, so you do not need a computer to check your Funding Tracker or update your contact details. Bookmark the sign-in page on your phone once you are set up, since you will likely check disbursement status more than once during a busy term.
Keep your login secure
Your MSCA account holds sensitive financial and identity information, including your loan balance and SIN-linked records. Use a unique password for your GCKey or Sign-in Partner login, and never share your credentials with anyone claiming to help you access funding faster. NSLSC and Service Canada do not ask for your password by phone or email.
What to do if your bank is not a Sign-in Partner
Not every Canadian bank supports Interac verification for MSCA. If yours does not, or you prefer not to link banking credentials, apply for a GCKey account instead and complete identity verification through the PAC by mail option. This route takes longer, so factor the up to 10 business day wait into your planning if a disbursement date is approaching.
After your first disbursement
Once your first payment lands, your MSCA dashboard becomes the place to track your running loan balance, confirm your enrolment for future terms, and manage repayment options later on. Check back each term rather than only at the start of your program, since your loan details update as new funding, confirmations, and eventually repayment activity get added to your file.
If you already have a GCKey from another government service
A GCKey used for another federal service, such as a passport application or the CRA, does not automatically link to your NSLSC file. Register for MSCA separately using that GCKey, then follow the identity verification step so your student loan record connects to your account.
Set up your account weeks before your program starts rather than the week funds are due. A student aid office at your school can point you to the right registration link if you run into trouble finding it on the NSLSC site.
