Who SUSS Is Built For
The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is one of Singapore's six autonomous universities, and it runs full-time and part-time degree tracks side by side. Its part-time programmes target working adults who want a degree while staying employed, structured around evening, weekend or blended online-and-in-person classes.
SUSS structures its academic year around trimesters rather than the two-semester calendar used at most other Singapore universities. This trimester system lets part-time students space their workload more flexibly across the year, since you can take a lighter course load in some trimesters and a heavier one in others depending on your job demands.
SUSS also runs full-time degree programmes with entry requirements close to other autonomous universities, built around A-Level, polytechnic diploma or IB results without a work-experience requirement. The part-time track is what sets SUSS apart for adult learners, since it lets you keep your job while you study rather than requiring full-time enrolment.
Part-Time Admission Requirements
To apply for a part-time undergraduate degree, you need to be a Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or a resident in Singapore, and meet one of these academic minimums: two GCE A-Level passes, a diploma from a local polytechnic, or an International Baccalaureate diploma, according to SUSS's part-time admission criteria .
Beyond the academic qualification, you also need at least two years of full-time work experience, or you need to be currently employed full-time when you apply. This work-experience requirement separates the part-time track from full-time entry and reflects SUSS's design around adult learners who bring workplace experience into their coursework.
If your employer sponsors your place on a part-time degree programme, SUSS waives the age and work-experience criteria for you. Check with your employer's HR or learning and development team about company sponsorship arrangements before you apply, since this route changes what you submit.
Credit Exemption for Polytechnic Graduates
From the July 2024 intake, SUSS runs a credit exemption framework for local polytechnic graduates admitted into either the full-time or part-time undergraduate track. Under this framework you receive exemption for up to 50 credit units, split across three categories: the SUSS Core Curriculum, Free Electives, and your Major, Second Major, Minor or Specialisation modules, according to SUSS's credit waiver and exemption page .
There is a time limit on this. Your polytechnic diploma needs to have been completed within the 5 years before you are admitted to SUSS. If you graduated from polytechnic more than 5 years earlier, you fall outside the exemption window even if your diploma content overlaps with the SUSS curriculum.
Submit supporting documents, such as your diploma transcript and module syllabuses, together with your admission application for the exemption assessment. SUSS decides the final exemption amount, and that decision is final and binding, so prepare complete documentation the first time rather than expecting a chance to appeal later.
Choosing Between Full-Time and Part-Time
Full-time study at SUSS moves faster toward graduation and suits school leavers or anyone able to commit to a standard course load without holding a job alongside it. Part-time study takes longer to complete but removes the need to give up your income during your degree, and the credit exemption framework for polytechnic graduates applies equally to both tracks.
Your choice affects more than pace. Part-time students build coursework around existing work commitments, which usually means picking modules with evening or weekend timings rather than a fixed daytime timetable, so check the specific module schedule for your intended course before enrolling.
Some students start on one track and move to the other later if their circumstances change, such as leaving a job to study full-time or picking up work partway through a full-time degree. Check with SUSS admissions whether a track switch applies to your specific programme, since this varies by course and by how far along you are in your degree.
Part-Time Study Structure and Fees
Part-time undergraduate students at SUSS pay fees on a different schedule from full-time students, tied to the tuition fee subsidy structure published on SUSS's part-time tuition fee subsidy page . Because part-time study spreads over a longer period, you divide the coursework and cost across more semesters than a full-time degree, which keeps individual semester fees lower even though total study time is longer.
The government's Tuition Grant subsidy structure that applies to full-time study works differently once study is spread across a part-time pace, so review the current subsidy figures on SUSS's part-time tuition fee subsidy page directly before you budget for your degree, since these figures update periodically.
How to Apply
Check SUSS's admissions page for the specific application and intake dates for your target course, since these vary by programme and by full-time or part-time track.
Confirm your academic qualification meets the minimum: A-Levels, poly diploma or IB
Check whether you meet the 2-year work experience requirement, or arrange employer sponsorship
If you graduated polytechnic within the last 5 years, gather your transcript and syllabuses for the credit exemption assessment
Submit all supporting documents with your application, not afterward
