What Tansiq does
Tansiq, Arabic for coordination, is the system Egypt's Ministry of Higher Education uses to place Thanaweya Amma graduates into public university faculties and institutes. There is no separate application or interview for most public faculties. Once results are released, the Coordination Office ranks every eligible graduate nationally by their total percentage and matches them to faculties using the preference list each student submits.
How placement works
Placement runs in phases. The Coordination Office fills the most competitive faculties first from the highest scorers, then works down through lower cutoffs in later phases as places remain open. For the 2024/25 academic year, minimum scores for competitive faculties included Medicine at about 93.2%, Dentistry at 92.8%, Pharmacy at 91.7%, Physical Therapy at 92.2%, and Engineering at 88.65%, according to Ahram Online . Faculties outside the medical and engineering cluster set lower cutoffs in the same cycle: Economics and Political Science needed around 85.24%, Al Alsun (languages) around 84.26%, and Mass Communication around 83.17%.

Cutoffs move up or down every year depending on how students perform nationally and how many places each faculty offers, so treat the figures above as a guide to relative competitiveness rather than a fixed target for a future cycle.
Submitting your preferences
After results release, you submit a ranked list of faculties through the official Tansiq portal. List faculties in your genuine order of preference from the start. The system checks your top choice against your score first; it only moves to your second choice if you do not qualify for the first, and so on down your list. Padding your list with unrealistic top choices costs you nothing directly, but ranking a faculty you would not actually attend above one you would only wastes a placement opportunity you could have used more effectively.
If you fall below the public cutoffs
Students who do not qualify for their preferred public faculty still have options. Private universities and higher institutes accredited by Egypt's Supreme Council of Universities set their own, generally lower, minimum Thanaweya Amma scores and run admission on a rolling basis after the main Tansiq results. Technical diploma coordination offers a separate, lower-threshold placement route into two-year technical colleges and institutes for students who want a faster path into the workforce.
