The Baccalaureat exam

Tunisia's Baccalaureat is the national secondary school exit exam set by the Ministry of Education. It is graded out of 20 and organized into sections tied to your chosen track, including Mathematiques, Sciences Experimentales, Lettres, Economie et Gestion, Sciences Techniques, and Sciences de l'Informatique. Your section decides which subjects carry the most weight in your final average and which university fields open up to you afterward.

Passing the Bac gets you into the national higher education system, but it does not by itself assign you to a university or program. That step happens through a separate national process called orientation universitaire.

How orientation works

Once Bac results are out, admitted students receive a personal password by SMS, which they use to log into the official orientation platform at orientation.tn. On the platform, you submit a ranked list of program and institution choices from the options open to your Bac section.

Your placement is not decided by your raw Bac average alone. Each target program applies its own set of subject coefficients to compute an orientation score specific to that program, meaning the same Bac results can produce a different ranking depending on which program you are being scored against. Programs with more applicants than seats, such as medicine and other high-demand fields, need a higher orientation score to secure a place, since the system fills seats in score order down to capacity.

2025 cycle timeline

For the 2025 session, the orientation guide listing available programs and their requirements went online on June 24, 2025, according to Tekiano . Students admitted in the main session received their SMS passwords starting June 28, while those admitted through the control session (rattrapage) received theirs from July 15.

The window to submit ranked choices ran from noon on July 23 to midnight on July 27, 2025. Final orientation results, showing each student's assigned university and program, were announced on August 1, 2025. Students who wanted to change their assignment, or who missed the earlier phases, had a further reorientation window from August 11-15, 2025, according to RTCI . Dates move slightly each year around the same general structure.

Preparing your choices

Read the orientation guide as soon as it goes online, since it lists every available program, the institutions offering it, and the coefficient formula used to score applicants for that specific program. Because coefficients vary by program, the highest-scoring choice for you personally is not always the program with the flashiest name, and calculating your likely orientation score for a few target programs before the choice window opens helps you rank realistically.

Keep your phone accessible around results windows, since the entire process runs through SMS-delivered passwords and an online portal rather than in-person paperwork. Missing an SMS or the submission window can push you into the later reorientation phase, which works from whatever seats remain after the main round fills.
