None of these questions test whether you plan to leave the UK immediately after study. The assessment centers on whether your reason for coming is genuinely to study.

• What modules, units, or research areas interest you and why.

• How this course builds on your previous qualifications or work experience.

• Who is paying, how much your course and living costs total, and where the money comes from.

• What you plan to do with the qualification once you finish.

Documents to have ready

Keep your CAS reference number, financial evidence matching the amount and 28-day holding period required under Appendix Student, academic transcripts and certificates, and your English language test results organized and easy to reference during a call. If you held a UK visa before, explain your previous immigration history accurately, since inconsistencies between your interview answers and your visa history raise more questions than the original gap would have.

How to prepare without sounding rehearsed

Practice your answers out loud with someone else asking follow-up questions, rather than memorizing a script that matches your personal statement word for word. Caseworkers notice answers that sound recited rather than reasoned. Keep your personal statement, your CAS course description, and your interview answers consistent with each other, since contradictions between these documents are a common reason genuineness gets questioned in the first place. If your university's international office offers a mock interview or visa workshop, use it.

If you are refused after an interview

A refusal on genuineness grounds cites the specific Immigration Rules paragraph the caseworker relied on. Student route refusals mostly carry a right to Administrative Review rather than a full appeal, so use that review to point out factual errors in the decision rather than submitting new evidence you could have provided the first time. Getting your documents and answers right before the interview matters more than any review that follows.
