Universite des Comores is the country's only public university
Comoros runs a single public university, Universite des Comores , with its administrative hub and four main faculties in Mvouni near Moroni on Grande Comore. The government created it in 2003 under President Azali Assoumani, after the education minister signed the founding project in April 1998. Before it opened, most Comorian baccalaureat holders had to travel abroad for any degree beyond secondary school.
The university teaches in French and belongs to the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), the network linking French-speaking universities worldwide. Enrollment reached about 15,546 students in 2017, and the university remains the main route into higher education for students who stay in the country. Programs follow the LMD structure common across Francophone Africa: licence over three years, then master over two, matching the Licence 1-3 and Master 1-2 levels the admission office lists.
Campuses and faculties
The university's four main faculties sit on Grande Comore near Moroni, but the institution as a whole is organized around nine components spread across six sites on all three Comorian islands: Grande Comore (Ngazidja), Anjouan (Ndzuani), and Moheli (Mwali). Each site groups faculties, schools, or institutes by subject area.

Pick your site around your program. Science, technology, and medicine students study at Corniche. Future teachers and technology diploma students study at Hamramba. Law, economics, and humanities students study at Mvouni.
Admission requirements
You need a baccalaureat, or an equivalent secondary diploma, to enter Licence 1. Document requirements change by level.
Licence 1: certified secondary school transcripts, baccalaureat results, birth certificate, and proof of residence if you apply as an international student.
Licence 2 or 3 direct entry: certified copies of your prior diploma and transcripts, plus residence proof for foreign applicants.
Master 1 or 2: a copy of your baccalaureat, your undergraduate diploma, transcripts, a CV, a birth certificate for new students, and a residence attestation for international candidates.
Transfer or re-enrollment after a break: your most recent transcript showing the academic level you reached.
Comorian schooling already teaches in French from primary level, so local applicants don't need a separate language certificate to enroll.

Pre-registration and registration both run online through admission.univ-comores.com . Build your file, upload your documents, and download the information sheet the system generates once you submit.
Pre-registration costs 25,000 KMF (about $55), paid through the HOLO mobile payment service. Students transferring between programs or re-enrolling after a gap pay the same 25,000 KMF fee. The university has not published a full public schedule of annual tuition by faculty, so confirm the exact yearly cost for your program with the admissions office before you commit funds.

What to expect once you enroll
Medicine and technology programs at Corniche and Hamramba draw the most applicants, since they lead directly to licensed professions the country needs more of, including doctors, engineers, and teachers. Law and humanities programs at Mvouni serve students heading into public administration, journalism, and education.
Because Universite des Comores is the only public university, seats in the most popular programs fill fast relative to demand. Apply early in the cycle, and keep certified copies of every document ready, since transcript and residence certification through local administrations takes time.
