PAYE deductions are assessed per pay period - not annually - so pick the schedule that matches your payslip.

Enter gross pay (before tax) for the period selected above. Pension and salary sacrifice reduce assessable income in real PAYE - use post-sacrifice gross for accuracy.

How It Works

2026-27 Official Thresholds

  • Plan 2: £29,385/year - £2,448/month - £565/week.
  • Plan 5: £25,000/year - £2,083/month - £480/week.
  • Repayment rate: 9% of income above the threshold for that pay period.
  • Per-period rule: PAYE deducts based on each individual payslip, not your annual total - a high-income month forces a deduction even if your annual salary is below threshold.

Key Caveats

Plan 2 loans are written off 30 years after the April you became eligible to repay. Plan 5 loans are written off 40 years after first eligibility. Interest accrues separately and is not netted from your monthly deduction - the 9% above-threshold formula is fixed.

If you hold multiple SFE plans simultaneously (e.g. Plan 2 + Postgraduate), additional deductions apply. This tool covers a single undergraduate Plan 2 or Plan 5 deduction only.
