The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgetown American University builds on the same nursing licensure pathway toward the Guyana Nursing Council Exam or NCLEX-RN, while extending training to a full professional nursing role. Learning outcomes center on functioning within the ethical and legal scope of nursing practice, delivering safe and holistic patient-centered care, and using clinical reasoning together with evidence-based decision-making to coordinate care for patients and their families. Graduates are expected to plan and carry out measures that keep patients and others safe, and to apply health-promotion and disease-prevention principles across a person's lifespan, guided by values such as integrity, advocacy and social justice. To enroll, applicants need a high school diploma or GED and must file an admission application with the School of Nursing. A police background check or a minimum level-one fingerprint clearance card is required, along with a drug screening, which can be done once the application itself has been approved.
