This Higher Diploma takes Early Childhood Education further than certificate or diploma level, building essential competencies, knowledge and the right professional attitudes for working in the field in Malta. Historical, philosophical and sociological perspectives on ECE are explored alongside the practical side of the profession, including the local challenges and opportunities that shape how it is practised.

At 120 ECTS and MQF Level 5, it is the largest of IDEA's Early Childhood Education awards, running full-time over about twenty months or part-time over twenty-four to twenty-six, starting each October. Entry calls for a full MQF Level 4 qualification in Early Childhood Education, with O-Level/SEC passes covering Mathematics, English and Maltese, or an equivalent mix of Advanced and Intermediate passes across those three subjects.
