The Master of Science in Dentistry at Oman Dental College is a full-time, in-person course lasting twelve months, carrying approval from Oman's higher education ministry. It is aimed at practising dental professionals who want to add research, teaching and leadership capability to their clinical work.
Students choose one area of focus, either clinical (such as oral surgery, implantology, orthodontics or paediatric dentistry, alongside endodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics) or non-clinical (dental education, oral medicine or dental biomaterials). The implantology option relates to eligibility for implant privileges in Oman.
The course covers research methods and ethics, statistics for interpreting data, and academic writing and presentation. Each student completes an original dissertation with individual supervision and is guided toward submitting a paper to a Scopus-indexed journal. A strand on the scholarship of teaching and learning introduces educational frameworks and techniques for designing and assessing dental teaching, and students reinforce theory through approved simulations, clinical observation or teaching assistance. Graduates may go on to specialist training overseas or doctoral study.
