The anthropology major gives students a general base in three subfields: the sociocultural, the archaeological and the biological. It also supports a personal focus on a particular interest or world region.
Advanced classes address topics such as religion, gender, colonialism, race, human evolution and conservation, in regions all over the world. Sociocultural work rests on ethnography and comparative social theory. Honors recognition depends on strong overall performance and a finished honors thesis.
The BA is administered by College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University and follows the academic standards set for that unit, so students should expect to meet both program and university expectations. Current course lists, degree requirements and academic policies are published in the university catalog, and applicants with questions about eligibility or the application process should contact the department or graduate field directly.
