Program details

Overview

The Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations concentration introduces Harvard College undergraduates to ancient and modern communities across the Near and Middle East, including their tongues, customs, and social worlds. The approach is interdisciplinary, giving students several angles on the region. Concentrators develop skill in at least one regional language and then choose among many possible directions of study. The degree awarded is the Bachelor of Arts, and students may also apply to earn a combined A.B./A.M. degree. A doctoral program in the department is offered through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The program page links to an application for interested students and points to the department or school for more detail. Prospective applicants should review it alongside the relevant admissions pages, and talk with advisers about courses, requirements, and how the studies fit their longer-term plans.
