Cert in Carpenters

Hillsborough College runs this carpentry apprenticeship as built on a federal training model. Apprentices hold a full-time job with a sponsoring employer during the day and attend related classroom instruction in the evening or at weekends at the Dale Mabry campus. The trade covers building frameworks and structures from wood and other materials, from kitchen cabinets to highways and bridges. Training combines 576 classroom hours with 8,000 hours of on-the-job learning, usually finishing after four years under the sponsor, ABC Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. Entry is not open to everyone, since the sponsor and employer decide who is accepted. Classroom instruction carries no tuition or fees, though apprentices may pay for tools, books and materials. Hours earned can count toward the Industrial Management Technology AS degree.
