Program details

Overview

This undergraduate degree combines art and design with either engineering technology or business, producing professionals who are comfortable with both craft and technical systems. The home unit is the visual and performing arts department. Learning covers scenery, lighting, costume, makeup, sound and stage management. The scope goes past conventional theatre to include event staging, museum exhibits, and themed retail and entertainment, supported by equipment designed for entertainment work. Students design for mainstage productions, help faculty prepare workshops, and may contribute to faculty grants. Graduates are ready for backstage roles such as assistant designer or crew member in theatres, touring companies, resort-style shows, theme parks, cruise ships, concerts and corporate events. A suggested four-year outline and degree audit guide the schedule.
