Overview

New York University offers a master of arts in Food Studies through its Steinhardt school. The degree looks at how societies grow, move, sell and eat food, drawing on humanities and social science methods and placing particular weight on urban settings and global exchange. Candidates complete a set of core courses covering food systems, culture, policy and nutrition, then choose a specialization such as policy and advocacy or business and social entrepreneurship. A capstone seminar closes the sequence, and electives can be taken in several other NYU schools. A dual degree with the Palmer School at Long Island University, in library and information science, is also an option.
