UMGC's applied social sciences credential, an undergraduate certificate, requires 18 credits and is offered online, with some hybrid choices. Courses are arranged in sessions so that people with jobs or family duties can study at a manageable pace. Credit from prior college work may be transferred and reduce what remains. Learners practice using concepts and methods from the social sciences on real problems found in neighborhoods, households and workplaces. Instructors from the university deliver the classes online, and students plan their sequence course by course. The certificate refreshes skills used to spot social problems and work toward solutions.
