Program details

Overview

The Chemistry Department at Vassar offers a supportive and intellectually demanding setting in which to learn and investigate chemical science, especially where chemistry meets biology, environmental science and physics. Lecture and laboratory courses reach across the main areas of the discipline, including the analytical, biochemical, inorganic, organic and physical branches, as well as topics such as polymers, proteins, organometallics and computational work. Students become skilled with modern instrumentation and are encouraged to join original research as early as their first year. A major can be arranged to meet American Chemical Society certification, and a correlate sequence and premedical preparation are also possible. The major is good preparation for graduate study or for careers from medicine and law to public health, materials research and environmental work.
