Overview
Mapúa University is a private engineering and technological university in Metro Manila, Philippines.
It began in January 1925 as Mapúa Institute of Technology, founded by architect Don Tomas Mapúa with architecture and civil engineering as its first programmes, and it received university status from the Commission on Higher Education in 2017. The Yuchengco Group of Companies has owned the institution since 1999.
Undergraduate teaching is organised into schools of architecture and design, chemical and materials engineering, civil and geological engineering, electrical, electronics and computer engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical and manufacturing engineering, information technology, multimedia and digital arts, and foundational studies and education. Programmes in business, health sciences and nursing are run in collaboration with Arizona State University, and the university also has schools of tourism and hospitality management, graduate studies and medicine.
Classes are delivered across the Intramuros and Makati campuses and an offsite Seda Hotel location in Manila.
Mapúa was the first institution in Southeast Asia to gain ABET accreditation for engineering programmes, and several of its engineering and computing degrees carry ABET recognition. It also offers fully online bachelor's and master's degrees through its Ubiquitous Online Experience platform, alongside master's and doctoral programmes in engineering, science and information technology.
International applicants who are not native English speakers must show English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS or the university's own English test.
