Overview
South Suburban College is a public community college in South Holland, Illinois, serving the communities of Community College District 510 in the southern Chicago suburbs.
Its highest award is the associate degree, and students choose from more than one hundred degree and certificate pathways grouped into allied health, business and computer technology, English and humanities, legal studies, nursing, science and mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences. Students can take classes in person, virtually, online, in flex format or in blended format, depending on the course.
Many follow transfer curricula that lead on to four-year institutions, while others complete career programs and certificates aimed at direct entry to work. The college reports a student-to-teacher ratio of 16 to 1.
Admission is open to students with a high school diploma or equivalent, and applying online costs nothing.
Residents of the district pay the in-district rate of $152 per credit hour, and students from outside the district can often reach the same rate through cooperative agreements with nearby colleges. International students on F-1 visas are admitted through a separate process and are charged the out-of-state rate.
The college also publishes support pages for undocumented students and offers tuition waivers, a payment plan and scholarships through its foundation. Campus life includes Bulldogs athletics and performances at the Kindig Performing Arts Center.
