What to gather before you start
Have your Ontario Education Number (OEN) ready if you're a current or recent Ontario high school student, since colleges use it to match your records. Have the names and addresses of every school you attended, along with a payment method for the application fee.
Spend time researching programs before you open your account. Note each program's specific admission requirements, prerequisite courses, and any supplementary steps, since some competitive programs add a portfolio, an interview, or a supplementary form on top of the standard application.
Create your account
Go to ontariocolleges.ca and register with an email address or a Google sign-in. This one account covers your application to every public college in Ontario for a single academic year, which runs August through July.
If you plan to start a different academic year later, whether you deferred or you're reapplying, you open a new application for that year. Each academic year needs its own account activity and its own fee.
Fill in your profile and educational history
Enter your personal information, contact details, and every secondary and postsecondary school you attended. List schools accurately since colleges use this information to request your records.
If you currently attend an Ontario high school, your school usually forwards your grades directly once you add the school to your profile, cutting down the paperwork you handle yourself. If you attended school outside Ontario, or you're a mature student without recent transcripts, you arrange for those transcripts separately, following the instructions in your account.
Add your program choices
Add up to 5 program choices in total, with no more than 3 at any single college. All your choices need to start within the same academic year.
You edit your program choices any time inside the same application. Add and remove choices as you research programs further, right up until a college makes a decision on that specific choice.
Pay the application fee and submit
A non-refundable application fee applies once, covering your full set of program choices for that academic year. After you pay, your application reaches every college you selected within 2 business days.
You submit one payment per academic year application, not one per program choice, as long as you stay within the 5-choice, 3-college limit.
Track your status and respond to offers
Log back into your account to confirm your transcripts arrived and to check where each application stands. Colleges review completed applications and release admission offers starting November 1.
Accept an offer directly through your ontariocolleges.ca account. Some programs ask for a confirmation deposit at this step, so read the instructions attached to your specific offer before you accept.
Tips for a smoother application
Apply before the Equal Consideration Date your target colleges publish for that intake, so every one of your choices gets reviewed at the same time as everyone else's.
Adding a new program choice after that date means the college reviews it later than applicants who applied on time, which matters most for competitive programs with limited seats.
Keep your contact information current. Colleges and the application centre reach you by email about missing documents, supplementary requirements, and offers.
Request transcripts early. Processing takes time, especially from schools outside Ontario.
If your program adds extra steps
Competitive programs, nursing, paramedic, or portfolio-based creative programs among them, often ask for more than transcripts and an average. Watch your ontariocolleges.ca account and your email for instructions on supplementary requirements specific to your chosen program, and treat those deadlines as seriously as the application deadline itself.
If your admission depends on a final grade you have not received yet, for example a Grade 12 course still in progress, colleges issue a conditional offer instead. That offer becomes firm once your school reports your final mark, so keep your final transcript request in your account up to date through the end of the school year.
After you accept an offer
Accepting an offer through your account does not automatically cancel your other program choices. Withdraw any choice you no longer want so colleges with limited seats can move on to the next applicant on their list.
Watch for a follow-up registration package from the specific college, separate from ontariocolleges.ca, covering course timetables, orientation, and any deposit due date. Your ontariocolleges.ca account tracks the offer itself, while the college handles everything that comes after you accept.
