UCAS Deadlines Canadian Applicants Actually Need to Hit for UK Entry

Two deadlines carry every Canadian UK application: October 15 at 6pm UK time for Oxbridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses, then a mid-January deadline for equal consideration everywhere else.

The October deadline: Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses
UCAS sets October 15 at 6pm UK time as the deadline for Oxford, Cambridge, and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine or science courses at any UK university. Cambridge's own admissions calendar confirms this date each cycle. This deadline sits early in a Canadian school year, often before your Grade 12 Term 1 marks are finalized, so these applications run on predicted grades from your school rather than a completed transcript.
If you are applying for medicine, build in time for the UCAT admissions test too. Test registration and sitting windows close before the October UCAS deadline, not on it, so book your test date over the summer.
The January deadline: equal consideration for most other courses
Most other UK undergraduate courses share a single January deadline, also at 6pm UK time. UCAS calls this the equal consideration deadline: every application that arrives by this time gets read on the same footing, whether it landed in October or the second week of January.
The exact January date shifts by a day or two most cycles. Confirm the exact date for your entry year on ucas.com rather than assuming last year's date still applies.

Work backward from whichever deadline applies to you
If you are aiming for the October deadline, ask your counsellor or IB coordinator for a predicted-grade letter in September, then leave time to draft your personal statement and collect your reference before mid-October.
If you are aiming for the January deadline, start the same conversations in November. Your school needs time to write a considered reference, and you need time to redraft a personal statement rather than submit a first pass under deadline pressure.
Applying after the regular deadlines
UCAS accepts new applications after January through June 30, though universities no longer have to give them equal consideration alongside earlier applicants. Popular courses fill before June some cycles. After June 30, and for any course still short of applicants once results are out, Clearing takes over.
Some scholarships and interviews run on tighter timelines
A UCAS deadline is not the only date that matters. Universities set earlier internal deadlines for scholarship applications, interview slots or accommodation guarantees tied to an early submission. Check your shortlisted courses' own admissions pages for any date earlier than the UCAS deadline that applies to funding or interview scheduling.
