Checking your UACE results
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) releases Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results through its official channels, including the UNEB website and result statements issued to schools. In 2025, UNEB released results for 166,400 registered candidates, a 17.2 percent rise from the 141,996 candidates registered in 2024, with 68.6 percent of candidates meeting the minimum requirements for university admission that year, a record share, according to reporting on the release .

How UACE grading and points work
At UACE, you sit three principal subjects plus compulsory General Paper and a subsidiary subject, usually Subsidiary Mathematics or Subsidiary ICT. Each principal subject is graded from A to F: A earns 6 points, B earns 5, C earns 4, D earns 3, E earns 2, O (a subsidiary-level pass in a principal subject) earns 1, and F earns 0. Your three principal subjects can contribute a maximum of 18 points.
General Paper and your subsidiary subject add up to 2 more points on top of that, for a maximum possible total of 20 points across your full UACE result. Universities and colleges use this total, alongside your specific subject combination, to determine which programs you qualify for.
Why subject combination matters as much as points
A high total points score alone does not guarantee admission to any program you want. Universities require specific subject combinations for specific courses, for example biology, chemistry, and physics for medicine-related programs, or economics and mathematics for many business and economics degrees. Two candidates with the same total points can qualify for different programs depending on which principal subjects they studied.
How many points different programs typically need
Entry thresholds vary by university, program, and year, so treat the following as a general pattern rather than a fixed rule for any single course. Competitive programs such as medicine, law, and engineering tend to require the most points, often near the top of the scale, while standard bachelor's degree programs need a moderate mid-range score. Diploma courses accept lower points totals, and certificate courses set the lowest threshold.
