🇵🇪 Peru: UNMSM Negative-Marking Score Generator
Reproduce the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos formula: +20 per acierto, −1.125 per wrong answer, 0 for blanks — then bind your projected total against the carrera's historical cut-off.
Puntaje Final
How It Works
1. The +20 / −1.125 / 0 Formula
The UNMSM admission exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions answered over roughly three hours. Each acierto adds 20 puntos; each respuesta incorrecta subtracts 1.125 puntos; blanks and double-marked items score zero. A perfect exam yields 2,000 puntos. A blank exam yields 0. Answering all 100 questions at random expectation (¼ correct on five-option items) nets roughly 500 − (75 × 1.125) ≈ 415 puntos — far below any carrera minimum.
2. Why The Penalty Exists
The −1.125 deduction is calibrated against the five-option answer format. Pure guessing yields, in expectation, 20·(1/5) − 1.125·(4/5) = 4 − 0.9 = +3.1 puntos per random answer, so the penalty does not fully neutralise guessing — but it makes guessing on questions where you can eliminate zero options statistically unrewarding once exam stress and time pressure are factored in. The expected-value calculus is what creates the strategic abstention trap that simple "answer everything" calculators ignore.
3. The Five-Área Cut-off Map
Carreras are grouped into Área A (Ciencias de la Salud), B (Ciencias Básicas), C (Ingenierías), D (Ciencias Económicas y de la Gestión), and E (Humanidades, Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales). Each carrera publishes its own puntaje mínimo (the score of the last admitted applicant). Medicina Humana sits near 1,386 puntos; Filosofía or Trabajo Social can clear at well under 800. The "minimum" is not a fixed pass mark — it is the cut-line determined by the demand-supply ratio for that carrera in that admission cycle.
4. The Total-Question Invariant
Aciertos + incorrectas + blancos must equal 100. If you enter 70 correctas and 35 incorrectas, the calculator flags the contradiction rather than silently mis-scoring. If you leave the blank field empty, it is derived automatically as 100 − aciertos − incorrectas. Negative net scores are mathematically possible (e.g., 0 correct, 100 wrong = −112.5) and the engine surfaces them honestly without flooring at zero.
