🇨🇱 Chile: PAES New Scale Score Simulators

Simulate your weighted PAES admission score on Chile's official 100–1000 normalized scale (DEMRE / Sistema de Acceso a la Educación Superior). Combine Competencia Lectora, M1, the elective track, NEM and Ranking de Notas with carrera-specific weights to project the puntaje ponderado de postulación.

M1 plus Competencia Lectora are obligatory. The elective depends on the carrera (Ingeniería/Medicina ⇒ M2 + Ciencias; Derecho/Humanidades ⇒ Historia).

Range 100–1000.

Range 100–1000.

Range 100–1000 (elective).

Converted from your promedio (100–1000).

Always ≥ NEM. Compares you to three cohorts of your liceo.

Each carrera publishes its own weights. Typical Medicina/Ingeniería profiles use 20/25/25/15/15 or similar. The sum must equal exactly 100%.

Provide each component on the 100–1000 scale and carrera weights that sum to 100%. The simulator first checks the 450 minimum-promedio threshold, then computes your puntaje ponderado.

How It Works

1. The 100–1000 Normalized Scale

Since the 2023 admission cycle DEMRE reports every PAES test on a 100–1000 scale built with Item Response Theory (IRT). The model weighs the difficulty and discrimination of each item, so two students with the same raw correct count can receive slightly different puntajes depending on which form they sat. There is no penalty for wrong answers.

2. Five Selection Factors

The puntaje ponderado is the weighted sum of five factors, all already in the same 100–1000 scale:

  • Competencia Lectora (obligatoria)
  • Competencia Matemática M1 (obligatoria)
  • Electiva: M2, Ciencias o Historia
  • NEM: promedio de los cuatro años de enseñanza media convertido a la escala
  • Ranking: posición relativa frente a tres generaciones de tu liceo, siempre ≥ NEM

3. The 450 Minimum-Promedio Gate

To apply through the centralised system, the simple promedio of Competencia Lectora and M1 must reach 450 points. A student with an excellent M2 but a Lectora + M1 promedio below 450 is excluded from the postulación regardless of how high the weighted ponderado would otherwise be. The simulator enforces this gate before reporting any puntaje.

4. Weights Must Total 100%

Every carrera publishes its own weight table — for example, Medicina at Universidad de Chile typically uses Lectora 20% / M1 10% / Ciencias 35% / NEM 15% / Ranking 20%. The simulator rejects weight sets that do not sum to exactly 100%, since the resulting "puntaje" would be mathematically meaningless.
