MSc (by Research) in Civil Engineering

This is a research-based master's in civil engineering. Rather than sitting a taught syllabus, each candidate defines and pursues an original piece of research inside civil engineering, guided by academic staff whose own background fits the chosen topic and who bring suitable expertise and experience to the supervision. Over that period of supervised research, the programme page states that students gain direct experience of significant research activity within civil engineering, along with the knowledge it brings. The university positions the degree as building highly specialised analytical ability, problem-solving skill and transferable competencies, useful for a later career as an academic, a researcher or a practitioner — whether in civil engineering itself or another related profession. To be admitted, applicants need a degree classed at least Lower Second-Class Honours — a Bachelor's award, or recognised equivalent — in Civil Engineering, or else in a closely related discipline, that the Senate of UTB accepts.
