Overview
The Honours Bachelor of Film and Television is a four-year honours baccalaureate degree offered at Sheridan College's Trafalgar Campus in Oakville. In the first two years, students sample electives across directing, producing, writing and editing before specializing in the final semesters in an area such as writing, camera and lighting, directing, editing, sound, producing and cinema studies, digital production design, or visual effects. Faculty bring recent, direct industry experience across these specializations. The program includes a 14-week work placement between semesters six and seven and gives students access to industry-standard equipment, including ARRI cameras and lights and Avid Media Composer. Towards the end of the degree, students complete a capstone portfolio project, working in teams that combine different specializations to pitch, fund, write and produce a short film or television production, mirroring industry production processes. The program suits students aiming for careers such as director, editor, screenwriter or cinematographer, and who want broad early exposure to production roles before committing to a specialization backed by substantial hands-on studio and placement experience.

Admission Requirements: Entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent including Grade 12 English (ENG4U) plus five further Grade 12 U or M credits, all at a minimum 65% overall average, or two semesters of postsecondary study with ENG4U or equivalent at 65% and the remaining courses at 60%, averaging 65% overall; applicants are ranked on the average of their six highest senior-level credits. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan's institution-wide English Proficiency Requirement for degree programs: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88 (no section below 21), PTE 60 (no section below 57), or Duolingo 115 (no subscore below 95); the programme page separately lists IELTS bands from 5.0, TOEFL iBT from 3.5, and Duolingo 85-100 as thresholds for its English for Academic Purposes placement, with results valid for two years. Applicants short of the academic requirements may qualify via Sheridan's Art Fundamentals, Media Fundamentals or Visual and Creative Arts program at a minimum 65% overall average. Winter and Spring/Summer 2027 entry use the same portal but Sheridan publishes no fixed equal-consideration date for them and reviews those on an ongoing basis. International applicants apply directly through Sheridan's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; the college publishes no fixed international deadline and admits on a rolling, space-permitting basis, so early application is advised for the 2027 entry cycle.
