Overview
This combined graduate program, offered jointly by the Alberta School of Business and the Faculty of Engineering's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, leads to both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Engineering. Students complete both degrees in two calendar years of full-time study. Only applicants with an undergraduate degree in engineering are admissible. Coursework draws on the standard MBA curriculum together with graduate courses in electrical and computer engineering. The program is course based and delivered on campus. Students already holding a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering or a related discipline are only eligible for the PhD program rather than this combined degree, and those with a doctoral degree in the field are ineligible. It suits electrical or computer engineering graduates who want formal business management training alongside advanced technical study, for careers combining engineering practice with management responsibilities in technology, telecommunications, or related industries.

Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: The department's minimum requirement for admission to the MEng route is an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution, calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework or the equivalent of the last two years of full-time study. Where applicable, proof of English language proficiency is required: a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 92 with at least 21 in each section (tests before January 21, 2026) or 5 with at least 4.5 in each section (tests on or after that date); an IELTS overall band of 7.0 with at least 6.0 on each band; a CAEL score of 70 with at least 60 on each subtest; a PTE Academic score of 62; or a Cambridge score of 176 with at least 169 on each subscore. Applicants must submit a CV and three letters of reference; current University of Alberta students do not need to submit references.
