FNU's Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Technology is a one-year qualification that combines classroom instruction at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences with supervised clinical placements in hospital laboratories. It is aimed at students seeking entry-level roles supporting medical laboratory scientists.
Across five courses totalling 120 credits, students cover biochemistry and transfusion science, microbiology, haematology, and a dedicated professional-practice placement. During that placement, students rotate through sections of hospital pathology departments, gaining first-hand exposure to how a diagnostic laboratory runs day to day.
Graduates are prepared for work as medical laboratory assistants in smaller facilities or as support staff to qualified scientists in larger hospital laboratories across Fiji and the Pacific.
