The research master Humanités numériques, delivered by PSL University, trains students to analyse and work with data from the humanities, social sciences and related disciplines. It pairs a discipline of the student's choice, such as history, philology, literature or sociology, with data science and computational methods. The programme is run jointly by the École nationale des chartes, the École normale supérieure and the École pratique des hautes études, all PSL institutions.
In the first year, students follow a shared core in digital humanities alongside discipline-specific teaching. They take 20 ECTS in social sciences and humanities at a partner institution and 40 ECTS in digital humanities. The digital humanities units cover XML data modelling, quantitative methods, mathematics, Python programming, large language models, research methodology and a research seminar. The first year leads to a mini research paper that combines the student's specialism with computational methods.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Intended for students holding a licence who want to combine a humanities discipline with data science. The first year starts with a pre-entry week, and a mathematics refresher is offered to students who need it.
