Biotechnology at the University of Akureyri is a BS programme. The programme page lists Physics 1 among its courses; it covers kinematics, forces, work and energy, fluid mechanics, sound waves and direct-current circuits, and it also introduces units, measurement uncertainty and significant figures.
After the degree, graduates can find work in public bodies such as Matís, the Environment and Energy Agency and the Icelandic Institute of Natural History, in hospital laboratories, or by founding a start-up of their own. A high share of students go on to master's and doctoral studies once the BS is complete.
Student life is organised around the Student Association of the University of Akureyri (SHA), which every student belongs to, and each department also has its own student society. Stafnbúi is the society for biotechnology and fisheries students, and further information about it is available on Facebook.
