The first-cycle Materials Engineering degree explains how the internal structure of a material determines its behaviour, and trains students to choose the right material and process for each application. Materials underpin the energy and technology transition, efficient energy devices, resource reduction, longer product life and recycling, and innovation in transport, aerospace, electronics, construction, textiles, biomedicine and sport.
Students follow a scientific and engineering preparation covering metallic, polymeric and ceramic material families and their production and processing technologies. Laboratory work from the first year lets students observe and test materials and interpret results in teams. The award is a laurea at level 5.
