Program details

Overview

Radboud's Anthropology and Development Studies master's builds an in-depth understanding of pressing local and global issues within social and cultural anthropology and development studies. Students examine the processes behind social transformation connected to diversity and inequality across complex, varied societies, developing into researchers who know how to make their findings genuinely useful beyond the academic context. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach and lets students specialise in one of three research domains, chosen and shaped into an individual research project already in the first semester: grassroots initiatives set against development and the state, ecological livelihoods paired with environmental justice, or decolonising diversity within a polarised world. Each domain offers a distinct lens for framing both a student's specific research and the wider world, connecting focused fieldwork to broader questions the discipline is grappling with.
